Award Description

The Will Rogers Medallion Award is presented each year to those books that represent an Outstanding Achievement in the publishing of Western Literature. They are books that exemplify outstanding excellence in content and design with an enduring quality that preserves and celebrates the history and spirit of the West and the memory of Will Rogers.

Will Rogers was a respected writer and Cowboy entertainer whose work embodied and demonstrated the traditions and values of the American Cowboy.  The Will Rogers Medallion Award was created to recognize worthy books of Cowboy Poetry that honor that heritage and encourage the continued upgrading of the quality of published books of Cowboy Poetry.
The Award is being expanded to honor works of Western Fiction, Western Fiction for Children, Western Non-fiction, Western Non-fiction for Children, Cookbooks and Western Photographic Essays, Western Film Documentary & Western Film with the same basic objective in mindFor All New Categories we will accept submissions for 2006 & 2007.
Each category will be considered separately. Within each category, up to 5 entries may be honored, if the judges decide they merit the Award.  That does not mean 5 entries in every category will be honored, and such a circumstance would be extraordinary.
The other change is each submission will now need to add $25.00. The $25.00 submission cost will go toward building the Award Fund.

Each book/film is judged on its own merit, based on specified criteria by a panel of impartial judges.  No consideration is given to the authors' or publishers' affiliations or memberships with any group, organization or society.
The Will Rogers Medallion Award is separate from the any other origination or awards.

We look forward to receiving this years submissions

Charles Williams, Executive Director
